deepwoods is the narrator of this cool
camp story;
Brian took this bruiser on opening day
at about 2:15 p.m. in the afternoon, as it
headed for a thick swamp and after he
shot it, he returned to camp and relaxed
for the rest of the day. He never went
down the hill to look at it!
That night when we met back at camp,
he told us he filled his doe tag and I had
too. I knew it was a bear to drag a deer
up the hill from where he hunted so I
suggested we retrieve my doe first
because we’d be dog tired when we got
his deer out. So we went and picked up
my deer and then headed out to get his.
He said it wasn't very big. He was the
first to walk up to it and exclaimed, “I
guess it's a little bigger than I thought." I
shined my flashlight on it...HOLY
CRAP!!!! I couldn't believe it!
I have made a tradition the last few years to
buy a special bottle of bourbon only to be
opened upon someone shooting a buck.
This year was 20-year-old Pappy Van
Winkle. The toast was made and never has
a cocktail tasted so sweet for that lucky
hunter. He has set the bar high. We
estimated mid 120's and about 4 ½. He shot
the deer on the 15th on public land in Iosco
County and the pictures were taken on the
18th by the river for the scenery. That’s why
he isn’t wearing hunters orange.
