Mitch Becker, Outdoor Writer @ www.huntmdown.com
Who is this guy that thinks he can all of a
sudden start writing a column? Well I am
not a person who thinks he knows
everything there is to know about
hunting, I don’t get paid to endorse
products and my dream is not to be on T.
V. acting like a pro. No, I‘m an average
Joe who teaches at a Catholic school in
small town central Minnesota. I have
three young boys 5, 3, and 6 months,
along with a very understanding wife who
also teaches at the same Catholic school.
In edition to teaching, my wife and I own
and operate a screen-printing business
out of our home.  Busy, busy, busy, but
come September 18 through December
31 the priorities change a little.

My Goal
I just want to put all my findings and
experiences in ink to share with anyone
that takes the time to read it. I am a 32
year-old whitetail fanatic. I grew up in a
taxidermist’s house (my dad), do a little
wildlife art on the side, and have worked
on a couple deer ranches and scent
companies. I guess you could say I love
the Whitetail deer for many reasons.
Each year I try to spend 2-300 hours in a
stand. I just thought it was time to start
writing down the things I feel I do right, as
well as the things that do not go as
planned.

Bow hunting is where I spend most of my
season but I always look forward to my
nine days with the 30-06. I do not want to
write all the things that you read all the
time.
I will share with you my day-to-day journal.
Wind directions, situations, encounters,
and the weather, etc…. I hope we can all
learn together through this process. Will I
contradict myself?  Yes, because just
when you think you’re on to something a
big ol’ buck will throw a curve ball at you.
I come from a long line of hunting in the
picture below my dad and I brought our
mounts up to an old grainery on our
property.
I watch all the hunting shows with the
professionals hunting the absolute best
hunting land in America. I want to bring a
down to earth perspective to the average
hunter who may not have the greatest
hunting property, the thickest wallet for
the best gear, or the person who’s time in
the stand is limited.
Being a Catholic schoolteacher raising
three young boys, time and money is an
issue. I will always keep this in mind for
those of you reading.
