Most Common Mount Enemies
Bugs Select an area of your home that is relatively bug free for your mount.
Moths, beetles, spiders, ants and dust mites.
Avoid the garage: oil, grease, gas, exhaust and chemical fumes will escalation deterioration.
Water
High moisture/humidity areas will actually change the chemical balance of the skin and may cause it to decompose.
Display your mounts away from extreme temperatures (fireplaces, vents, humidifiers, chimneys and stoves.) Your mount will remain pristine in rooms/areas with regulated or constant room temperatures!
The Sun
Any direct or indirect sunlight that hits your mount will fade the color of your feathers, fur, skin and horns. A shaded area will prevent any form of deterioration/discoloration.
Dust Prevent dust from dulling the luster and settling into the mount.
Use a feather duster on horns, rack, eyes and nose to these areas.
Use a small brush with firm bristles to lift dust from the hair.
A little thought and maintenance will ensure quality preservation, luster is extended, and revive those memories! For unusual discoloring contact your taxidermist for restoration.
