There are a number of masking or cover type scents on the market today. Not all are created equal. Some make the strange claim that they both cover and attract. This is not a logical approach. A cover scent should try to overwhelm a deer’s nose by filling it with lots of non-threatening odor making it more difficult for the deer to detect the few molecules of human odor that may be present. Including attractive odors in a “cover” scent draws the animal’s attention to the scent. A deer’s sense of smell is powerful and can detect more than one odor at a time. A young deer may well follow a trail of acorn scent or some other lure but encouraging a deer to study the scent of your trail may well backfire, and the older the deer the greater the risk.
Natural Essence uses a much better approach. They made one of the best cover scents you can get, get, Fall Essence. Fall Essence uses only a light, natural scent of the woods. Nothing to draw a deer’s focus to your path. Fall Essence does what a cover scent is supposed to do, obscure human odor, not draw attention.
