Trapping” Whitetail Making Synthetic Scrapes @ www.huntmdown.com
From your friends at BUCK FEVER SYNTHETICS ‘GET THE FEVER” here are
directions for best results:
If your goal is to hunt young deer several techniques will work. I once spoke with a guy who uses blueberry pie crust to
attract deer. To hunt mature deer you must be crafty! Deer are created with a nose that gives them over 500-million
scent receptors. That’s easily over 400 times more than we have. And with this amazing nose they can easily identify
over twenty-odors at the same time and a lingering scent trail (where you walked) up to five days. So just using a cover
scent for (smart) deer is a total waste of your time and money. And the first time you enter the woods without proper
scent control, smart deer pattern you and already know what to do to avoid you. Is it any wonder, how many hunters
ever get a chance at a big old buck?
Scent Control
  • Scent control is your first and most important step to fooling
any animal with a sensitive nose!

Body Odor year around
While setting your synthetic deer traps or simply scouting your
area. Always follow a strict scent control regimen.
  • Make sure you and your gear are extremely clean.
  • Always spray your hands with Vanishing Hunter before
    touching anything.
  • Wear clean de-scented clothes, rubber and maybe even
    Scent-lok clothing.
  • De-scent your rubber boots or waders and other gear with
    Vanishing Hunter.
  • Minimize leaving any lingering scent when accessing your
hunting spots and clear your trail by trimming any thick
    brush you might contact.
  • All of this is crucial when making or checking our Buck
    traps.

Hunting Season Body Odor
The two largest sources of major deer-alerting odors are
your skin and breath
! It is a fact that horses, dogs and mature
deer can identity you by mouth odor alone. If you want the best
results don’t cut any corners at all and follow our entire
recommended scent control regimen.
  • Shower using scent free body soap and shampoo
  • Spray Vanishing Hunter (while your skin is damp) directly
onto your clean skin and rub it over your entire body and
your head or hair or scalp.
  • Towel-dry or air-dry with a hair dryer.
  • If you can’t shower, simply spray Vanishing Hunter
directly on your skin. Leaving the VH residue on your
skin will help you remain scent-free all day long, even while
    sweating.
  • Brush, your tongue with toothpaste.
  • Rinse your mouth with Vanishing Hunter and spit it out.
  • Chew Gum-o-flague to keep your mouth deodorized.

Hunting Clothes
Wash your hunting clothes often (every week) to rid them of all
odors.
  • Use baking soda alone, with no soap in the water.
  • Air-dry or put them in the dryer without softener sheets
instead add a little baking soda in the dryer.
  • Or wash in scent free soap and in between washes you can
treat your clothes with a light spray of Vanishing Hunter.
  • Always spray your hands with Vanishing Hunter before
handling any of your clothes or gear.
  • Store, clean, de-scented hunting gear inside a plastic,
rubber or Scentlok bag and inside a container with a tight
    seal.
  • Never wear any part of your hunting gear until you have
actually entered your hunting area. Always wear rubber
boots and make sure they’re de-scented both inside and
    out.
  • If you wear leather boots don’t forget to use a good
boot cream to condition, water proof and deodorize - we
recommend James Valley Leather Boot Cream.
  • Now that you’ve reached this scent control level, hunt the
    wind at your backside.
Setting Buck Traps
Introduce a ‘synthetic” deer to your area and make
bucks hunt you!
Creating a Synthetic Trap
To make bucks consistently visit your setups always
make several
synthetic scrapes. You can either use
mock (fake) scrapes or existing ones, old or new. Keep
in mind, the more you create the better your odds of
finding good hunting locations.
  • First, always put them in runways with a proper
    (downward) overhanging branch for scent
communication. Always mark the licking branch
    with BF-FGland.
  • Next, scrape the ground free from debris and put
at least a quarter ounce of BF- Pre/Post Rut in
the scrape, for beat results precondition the deer
in your area well in advance of season.

If year-round setups are possible, keep good response
sites active by:
  • Mark them once a month from February through
    June.
  • From July through August, re-freshen once every
    two weeks.
  • September, mark them once a week.
  • Once you’re actually hunting! Mark your hunting
    spot every time you hunt.
  • Start early in the year!

You can often get programmed responses from many
deer before the season arrives.
  • BF-Rut works best once rutting behavior
increases, and can cause quick aggressive
responses from rutting deer, a compound benefit
at your synthetic scrapes is that many deer will
collectively urinate and other scrapes often
    appear in the area.
  • We call this the multiplicity factor’ and it really
multiplies your buck activity and chances for
    success.

If you can’t precondition your area, quick response sites
(buck traps) can work in a hurry.
  • Some of these quick response areas have
produced a reaction within days, hours, minutes,
    or even seconds (really).
