- Greeting Call (a steady even rhythm of 5 to 7 "Kanc, Kanc, Kanc, Kanc, Kanc." notes in descending order)
- Feeding Call (say "tikkitukkatikka," into the call raising and lowering the volume slightly. The actual sound
ducks make while feeding is a broken up and erratic sound, like 'da-dit da-dit dit dit, da-dit dit.') - Hail Call (a long, strong, Aaaaaaink...Aaaaaink.., aaaaink, aaainkaink and tapers off as it progresses)
- Comeback Call (an urgent and rapid sound of about 5-7 notes, like Kanckanc, Kanc, Kanc, Kanc" )
- The Lonsesome Hen (widely spaced, irregular, nasal, drawn-out "Quaaaaink" quacks)
- The Pleading Call or begging hail call (a series of 5 t o 6 quacks "Kaaanc, Kanc, Kanc, Kanc" sounds, drawn-
out, a slightly faster variation of the comeback) - The Whistling Call (Mallard, Pintail and Wigeon) whistling in conjunction with mallard calling.
