Post Season Hunting Preparations @ www.huntmdown.com
It never fails.  Post season depression sets in, usually while on stand the last day of the
season.  It’s a sad, gut wrenching feeling to be on stand that last day.  Watching your
last sunset wondering where the time went.  There are a few tricks I use to help combat
this condition.  First there is always post-season scouting to be done.  This is a very
helpful tool to see where the post rut bucks are at and probably where you ‘should
have’ set up all along.  Finding fresh rub lines near bedding and feeding areas this time
of year can help you gear up for the next season and maybe give you a little better stand
placement.
Secondly I like to extend my hunting by venturing out on rabbit hunts.  Our rabbit
season runs with deer season some, but goes about two months after deer season is
over.  We usually don’t start rabbit hunting until after deer season has ended.  This will
get you out there for an ‘extra’ two months, it’s great fun, and will help you hone your
shooting skills if you choose to do so.  It is also time to turn the coon dogs out for a
while and get in some night exercise.  This will help pass the time until spring when it
will be time to break out those calls and decoys and try your luck at wild turkey.  After a
couple weeks of strutting with the gobblers it should be prime time to break out the
fishing tackle and go for large mouth bass during the day and monster catfish all night
long.  If at anytime you find your self bored, try your luck at predator hunting as coyotes
are always in season here.  Before you know it September has returned and it’s time to
finish your pre-season scouting and get back to it. Fill your entire year with hunting to
fight off post season depression.  Something is always in season and thus there should
never be a ‘post-season.’
