How awesome is Bear hunting?!
We booked my first bear hunt, September 2-8th,
2006, with Watershed Bear Outfitters in Gogama,
Ontario, Canada. The area we hunted was
AWESOME, Canada is beautiful and the hunt the
most amazing experience I have ever had!
The first night we hunted I had a guide sit with me to
get me comfortable with the area. The second night I
was ready to brave it myself, so, I had the outfitter
drop me off at my tree stand 7 miles away from
anywhere. He dropped me off about 2pm. I sat with
my bow in hand till about 3:30 p.m. I was really proud
of myself for being brave and hanging in there by
myself. Then I realized I had to pee, so I bent down
and ‘peeed’ through the slats on the tree stand. You
men have it so much easier than us women when it
comes to stuff like that. And yeah, I know, you are
not supposed to pee when out on stand. I really had
to go though. Anyway, no sooner did I get my pants
pulled back up and sat down, I heard a noise coming,
and I grabbed my bow. It was a bear!!!! Man that will
make your heart pump. As I watched him I noticed
that he was not going for the bait, he was coming
toward me!!!! When he got to me he smelled under
the stand where I had 'peeed', then started up the first
two rungs of the tree stand ladder. He then walked
around the stand to an embankment and crawled up
toward the stand, stood up, and ended up with his
face about 3 feet from mine.

He growled fell on his butt, and moved
back and forth for a while. Then he got
up and walked a few steps, fell down,
and tried to get back up again, he did
this for about 5 minutes, then I heard the
death moan and he was out. After I
heard the moan, I waited for about a half
an hour to make sure I did not hear any
more movement. My legs were shaking
like crazy it was funny. I was shaking so
bad, I wasn’t able to hold my girlfriend’s
cell phone, without dropping it, I set it
beside me on the stand for 30 minutes,
until I stopped shaking! I called the
outfitter, than got down to look for
the bear!!! The outfitter was shocked to
find me scouting for the bear, and stated
most men would not leave their stands
until he arrived. As we marked the last
blood marks, it started getting really
dark, so we returned to camp with a plan
to go back in the morning. We found the
bear 5 feet from last blood trail and
about 30 yards from my stand. The
outfitter said I was the first to kill a bear
in the area and I got the third largest
bear of the season, about 230 pounds.
In addition, my friend and I were the first
woman hunters ever at his camp.
Everyone should bear hunt once it’
It's an awesome experience!!!
Talk about and an "OH *&^%"
moment!!! Then he smelled the
bait. He walked to the clearing
toward the bait, got on his belly,
crawled to the bait, grabbed a
donut, and backed out on his
belly back to my stand. He stood
under my stand, as he ate the
donut, but looking up at me the
whole time. He did this for an
hour!!!!!!! Hardcore (my husband)
had given me a Jello pudding mixture
to pour over the baiting log; afterward
I placed the empty container behind
a tree. The bear finally decided he
needed that bag, he stood up,
reached his front leg out, and I
shot him!!!!
